What kind of metal dome suitable for the pcb as switch? All of metal domes are suitable, the answer.

Such as the pcb for membrane switches, the fou-leg metal dome is very popular, it’s with good click feeling. How about the cellphone? As there is not enought space, so the circle metal dome is most used.

Compare to silicone keypad, what are the advantages of the metal dome keypad? Why should we choice metal dome keypad?

From now on, The most advantage of the metal dome keypad is compared to silicone keypad the better click feeling. The metal dome keypad is that there is metal dome array between the keypad and circuit board, when you press the keypad or switches, it will come back to operator better return force and click feeling. It’s a highly efficient and affordable designer for user.

But for metal dome keypad, maybe there will extra works and material, so the cost is a little higher than silicone keypad, I’m not complete sure. With more than a million times of life, and metal dome keypad became the most common choice.

Over-travel Metal dome

Actuating the metal dome past its designed travel.  For most metal domes, this is beyond the flat plane of the foot.  Metal domes also can be designed to over-travel.

Our 4mm and 5mm circle metal domes, they are designed to be pushed past flat by .005”. This over-travel allows metal domes to reach a contact area below the plane where the outer rim of the dome rests. 

The C-series domes will not invert when pushed past the flat plane. Applications requiring a low profile switch under a membrane overlay are a perfect fit with our C-series metal domes. It can be used anywhere a momentary switch with tactile feedback is required, while still achieving impressive actuation life cycles.

Which metal domes are used for membrane switches? The answer is the four-leg metal dome is mostly used in the membrane switches.
Four-leg metal dome has the good click feeling, much more life cycles, so it’s wildly used in the membrane switches. Our four-leg metal domes have many items, the diameter we have 5mm, 6mm, 8.4mm, 10mm, 12.2mm,1 6mm, 20mm, the force is from 150 to 400g, dimple or without dimple, and Nickel or gold plating are available.
