The difference of three kinds plating of metal dome

October 13th, 2009

Recently, some customers have some queries about the plating of metal dome(snap dome) and the difference of them. We now have three kinds plating: Nickel plating, Silver plating, and gold plating. And I explain the difference in details as below: The material of metal dome(snap dome) is made from stainless steel 301 from Japan and USA.

 As the customers’ requirements, we have the three types plating for metal domes: Nickel, Silver, and gold plating. hese three types are plating in the contact surface(we also have the double sided plating). Its main fuction is to reduce the contact resistance, and increase the conduction. The contact resistance: Gold plating<Silver plating <Nickel plating. Although the plating can reduce the contact resistance, it also can increase the cost. Especially the cost of gold plating will increase several times.

Generally speaking, the resistance of our stainless steel is less than 10 ohm, the Nickel plating is less than 1 ohm. If you haven’t the special requirements for the resistance, we recommend you to use the stainless steel metal dome. Last, what the kind of product you would like to use is based on your product’s required. So it depends on your requirements.

How can assemble dome array on PCB firmly?

September 16th, 2009

Some customers have came across the problems that they can’t assemble the dome array on PCB firmly. I think maybe there are the
below issues for this matter:
First, there are some dust and stains on the PCB, so the PCB must be clear;
Second, please use the the forceps or other toolings to peel off the protective film of dome array, please don’t use the hand;
Last but not least, please press a little after you stick it on the PCB.

Upon the three setps, I think you can assemble the dome array firmly on your PCB.

The stoke of metal dome

July 20th, 2009

we have got some customers to ask the stoke of metal dome, because of they have the required about the whole spacer for the domes.So what’s the stoke of the metal domes? You can see the below picture:

From it, you can see the total height is 0.052mm  , and the thickness is 0.10mm for this item, then what will be the stoke?
There is a formula for stoke: S(stoke)=H(height)-T(thickness)=0.042mm
But if there is a dimple in the center, what will be stoke? I think it’s easy for you now, right?
S(stoke)=H(height)-T(thickness)-DT(dimple height)
I think you are clear about stoke of metal dome now, if you need more information, please contact us or see our FAQs.
