The difference of three kinds plating of metal dome

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Recently, some customers have some queries about the plating of metal dome(snap dome) and the difference of them. We now have three kinds plating: Nickel plating, Silver plating, and gold plating. And I explain the difference in details as below: The material of metal dome(snap dome) is made from stainless steel 301 from Japan and USA.

 As the customers’ requirements, we have the three types plating for metal domes: Nickel, Silver, and gold plating. hese three types are plating in the contact surface(we also have the double sided plating). Its main fuction is to reduce the contact resistance, and increase the conduction. The contact resistance: Gold plating<Silver plating <Nickel plating. Although the plating can reduce the contact resistance, it also can increase the cost. Especially the cost of gold plating will increase several times.

Generally speaking, the resistance of our stainless steel is less than 10 ohm, the Nickel plating is less than 1 ohm. If you haven’t the special requirements for the resistance, we recommend you to use the stainless steel metal dome. Last, what the kind of product you would like to use is based on your product’s required. So it depends on your requirements.

What kind of metal dome is suitable to be made into dome array?

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Metal dome array is a kind of pressure-sensitive adhesive film that carries metal dome. But what kind of metal dome is suitable to be made into dome array?

Circle metal domes are the most commonly used in dome arrays, such as keypads of our cell phones, it’s the round metal dome. The four legs metal dome commonly used in membrane switches, it’s with large quantity. Triangle series are  most used with the legs, so they aren’t made into dome array. Of course, we also have customers to make into our standard one key metal dome array for switches. Now, from digital, high-tech products extended to all lines, dome array mostly used.

The difference between the dimple and without dimple of metal domes

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

As metal domes have dimple and without dimples two kinds, many customers have asked the difference of these two kinds. Well, Let me explain the more details about the dimple domes features today:

First, It’s incresed the travel;
Secondly, it’s with better click feeling when you pressed;
Third, It has the better dust-prood effect;
Last, whether it’s with better conduction, there is no data to verify.

I think you are clear about the difference of the two kinds metal domes. In fact, which kind you will use,
it’s depending on your design.

The specifications of dome array

Monday, November 7th, 2005

This time please follow me to know the specifications of metal dome array:

1. Mylar: Transparent, the thickness is 0.05mm on the top layer
2. Spacer: White or Transparent are available. The thickness is 0.075mm, 0.010mm, and 0.0125mm.
3. Adhesive: Thickness is from 0.02 to 0.05mm.
4. Peel-off-paper: It support the metal dome array. You can peel off the metal dome array from the paper, and then stick it onto the PCB. It’s transparent and the thickness is normal 0.07mm.
5. Outline: the size we can make at most 88*78mm. We can make as your  PCB drawing.

Do you clear about the dome array now? If not, please contact us for the more information, we are glad to be at your service.
