Raw edges of metal dome array

July 10th, 2010

Sometimes when we make the metal dome array which will cause the raw edges, so why is that and how can we slove that?

The reasons and solutions as below:
1. The mold for metal dome array outline not in balance—we should adjust the mold;
2. Blade for outline mold isn’t shape—handing the blade of mold;
3. Big gap between upper and lower molds—-adjust the specifications;
4. Thinner material—use the thicker material.

For the unqualified products, we can’t let them out of factory, we have a very strict quality control system to ensure the quality of our metal dome array. Please don’t worry about the quality of our products.

Snap dome diameter and thickness of material

July 7th, 2010

Maybe some customers want to know if there is relation between Snap dome diameter and thickness of material.

Snap dome, also named metal dome, we have circle shape, four-leg shape, triangle shape, and oblong shape. The diameter from3mm to 20mm. You can see below rough thickness of material for different diameter:

1. 3mm-5mm diameter snap dome, normal use the 0.04mm-0.06mm thickness of stainless steel material;
2. 6mm-8mm diameter snap dome, normal use the 0.06mm-0.08mm thickness of stainless steel material;
3. 9mm-12mm diameter snap dome, normal use the 0.08mm-0.10mm thickness of stainless steel material;
4. 16-20mm diameter snap dome, normal use the 0.10mm-0.12mm thickness of stainless steel material;

The bigger diameter snap dome, the thickner material. The material also determine the quality of snap dome. Material of choice was out of our practical production.

LGF metal dome array specifications

June 30th, 2010

Ok, this time let’s see more details of LGF metal dome array specificationsLGF means Light Guide Film, is the difference of the normal metal dome array is that there is a LGF on the top layer.

The working theory is the use of the light reflection and refraction theory, and then let the surface of the keypad illuminated uniform and higher brightness.
1. you can save the several LED lights, and the SMT fee.

2. solve the uneven brightness, high electrical power consumption, and high costing.

3. structure is easy, don’t affect the design of product.

4. two thickness of LGF: 0.125mm and 0.10mm.

If you want to learn more about our LGF Metal Dome Array specifications, please contact CMD Manufacture Co., Ltd. for more information about dome array and snap dome.

Over-travel Metal dome

June 22nd, 2010

Actuating the metal dome past its designed travel.  For most metal domes, this is beyond the flat plane of the foot.  Metal domes also can be designed to over-travel.

Our 4mm and 5mm circle metal domes, they are designed to be pushed past flat by .005”. This over-travel allows metal domes to reach a contact area below the plane where the outer rim of the dome rests.

The C-series domes will not invert when pushed past the flat plane. Applications requiring a low profile switch under a membrane overlay are a perfect fit with our C-series metal domes. It can be used anywhere a momentary switch with tactile feedback is required, while still achieving impressive actuation life cycles.
